On June 5, 2025, Camp Humphreys officially renamed its Freedom Chapel to honor Chaplain (Capt.) Emil J. Kapaun—Korean War hero, POW, Medal of Honor recipient, and Catholic priest. From humble beginnings in Kansas to courageous service in Korea, Kapaun’s legacy of faith and sacrifice continues to inspire.

The Knights of Columbus led a moving Memorial Day tribute at the UN Memorial Cemetery in Busan, honoring fallen service members and highlighting the legacy of U.S. Army Chaplain Emil J. Kapaun. This powerful pilgrimage united Catholic communities from Camp Humphreys and Osan Air Base in a solemn act of remembrance and faith.
