Dewdrop Café: A Family Legacy Brewed with Passion in Pyeongtaek

Desserts on a round wooden table: cheesecake, pastries, and a muffin. Drinks include a latte and a strawberry smoothie. Cozy, neutral setting.

Nestled in the heart of Pyeongtaek, Dewdrop Café stands out not only for its artisan coffee and delectable pastries but also for the heartfelt story behind its founding. What began as a shared passion between siblings has blossomed into a community favorite, loved by locals and expats alike.

A family of baristas and culinary professionals founded the café, bringing unique expertise to the table.. “Actually, all of our siblings and my husband. We are baristas,” shared Boyoung Kim, the general manager of Dewdrop Café. “My two sisters are baristas, my brother is the roaster, and my husband is the pastry chef. That’s why we started this as a family business.”

At the heart of Dewdrop’s culinary excellence is Chef Christophe Mazeaud, the head pastry chef and café manager, whose refined skills and international recognition elevate the entire bakery section. “He is really famous worldwide,” Kim noted proudly. “That gives us a competitive edge. His pastries speak for themselves.” Chef Christophe also teaches pastry classes at a university, bringing professional standards and ongoing innovation to the café.

Bokyung Kim, Chef Christophe’s wife, welcomes every guest with warmth and care as the barista and front-of-house manager.. And serving as the roaster and head of coffee and beverage innovation, Yong Jin Kim leads the café’s unique coffee roasting and menu development.

Rooted in Tradition, Growing with Purpose

Dewdrop Café has been serving its community for approximately eight years. Since its humble beginnings, it has evolved into a vibrant space known for good food, specialty coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere. Chef Christophe explains, “We started very small. But with support from my sous chef and our team, we’ve expanded the menu by over 75%. Now, we have a full display of baked goods and seasonal treats.”

Their secret? A blend of seasonal ingredients and reimagined French classics. “We often revisit traditional French recipes and give them a new twist, depending on the season,” said Chef Christophe.

Dewdrop Café Signature Delights & Vibe

Among the most beloved menu items are their mochas, vanilla lattes, and Americanos, alongside the apple pie and lemon pound cake that have become crowd favorites. “Some people love our apple pie so much, they come in and buy out the whole case,” Chef Christophe laughed. Their French-style croissants, pain au chocolat, and turnovers are equally in demand, made fresh and crafted with care.

When it comes to ambiance, the café hits all the right notes. “Good music, good food, good service, and a beautiful mix of cultures and customers. That’s what makes our vibe special,” he added.

A Space for Everyone

Dewdrop Café is not just family-owned; it’s family-friendly. The location features a large backyard park where children can play, swings for photo ops, and even a nearby pet park. “We welcome pets, especially certified guide dogs,” Kim mentioned. “We really wanted to create a space for everyone.” The thoughtful layout of the café makes it accessible and enjoyable for families, pet owners, and solo visitors alike.

Serving with Heart and Vision

Despite occasional language barriers, the team makes it a priority to connect with their community. Chef Christophe regularly steps out to chat with customers. “It’s about building relationships. That’s why people come back.”

The café also collaborates with local institutions in Pyeongtaek to offer baking classes and community workshops. “We’ve even partnered with the local government for educational programs,” Chef Christophe shared. “And we hope to expand those offerings.”

Advice for Aspiring Café Owners

When asked what advice he’d give others looking to start a café, Chef Christophe said, “Build a solid team you can trust, people who contribute creatively and stay loyal. That’s the real goldmine behind a successful business.”

Family, Food, and Future

Despite being a family-run business, the work environment remains professional and respectful. “We don’t argue. If there’s an issue, we talk it out directly. And as the chef staff, I always try to address problems personally and privately to keep things on track,” Christophe explained. The family works as a strong unit, openly communicating and supporting one another, creating a positive environment both behind the scenes and at the counter.

In every croissant, every pour of coffee, and every warm greeting, Dewdrop Café reflects the dedication, talent, and unity of the family behind it. For those in Pyeongtaek seeking a comforting, high-quality café experience, Dewdrop is a must-visit gem.
