The Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) program is more than a calendar of events—it’s a platform where single and unaccompanied Soldiers shape their Army experience, improve their quality of life in Korea, and positively impact their community. BOSS empowers Soldiers to take an active role in shaping their environment and experiences. At U.S. Army Garrison Daegu, the BOSS program serves its community through its four core pillars—Quality of Life, Community Service, Recreation and Leisure, and Life Skills.

Building Bridges: The E-World Event with USAG Daegu BOSS Program

A recent highlight of the BOSS program at USAG Daegu was the collaboration with the Good Neighbor Program at the Daegu Seogu Youth Center. On April 5th, BOSS members joined Korean students for a day at E-World, a local theme park, where they engaged in mentoring activities and cultural exchange. This event allowed Soldiers to practice English with students eager to improve their language skills, while immersing themselves in Korean culture. The shared experiences—ranging from educational interactions to enjoying amusement rides and the petting zoo—strengthened the bond between the U.S. military and the local community. Events like these, through the Good Neighbor Program, allow Soldiers to connect with others in a relaxed but engaging environment. The event was truly enriching for both Soldiers and the local students.

A Model for Community Engagement

The BOSS program at USAG Daegu exemplifies how military initiatives can transcend their primary objectives to create lasting, positive impacts on both Soldiers and the communities they serve. Through advocacy, service, and cultural exchange, BOSS not only enriches the lives of single Soldiers but also strengthens the ties between the U.S. Army and its Korean hosts. As the program continues to evolve, it remains a testament to the Army's dedication to fostering resilient, well-rounded Soldiers and harmonious international relationships.

“The USAG Daegu BOSS program remains committed to its mission of enriching the lives of its Soldiers while fostering positive relationships with the local community. BOSS is the embodiment of our motto to ‘Make A Difference’ every day.”

Becoming a BOSS Member: A Path to Resilience and Recreation

Joining the BOSS program offers Soldiers a unique opportunity to enhance their quality of life, gain practical knowledge, and build resilience. Through BOSS, Soldiers can participate in a variety of activities that promote mental and physical well-being, such as horseback riding, water park and theme park visits, travel within Korea, and outdoor adventures like rafting and snowboarding.

Beyond recreational activities, BOSS provides a platform for Soldiers to engage in community service, fostering a sense of meaningful contributions that make a difference. By volunteering for events and projects, Soldiers can develop leadership skills, build camaraderie, and make a positive impact on their local communities. Participating in BOSS also gives Soldiers a healthy, rewarding way to relax and enjoy their time in Korea.
